Friedman Fisher Associates designed the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems for this 100,000 sq. ft. corporate flagship laboratory building over 7 phases of construction, expansion and reconfiguration of space originally designed as a light industrial warehouse. The building systems support 13 labs with over 100 chemical fume hoods along with support and office spaces.
Laboratories include organic chemistry research labs, cGMP manufacturing suites, analytical instrumentation labs and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) labs. Number of chemical fume hoods was extremely high for the building area requiring extremely coordinated design of all systems with each other and the building's structure.
Through a planned process, the Mechanical and Electrical systems were built in a modular fashion and expanded as each phase was completed. Due to the original building’s limited floor to floor heights and innovative services shaft concept was developed to allow vertical distribution of mechanical ductwork, piping, electrical and process systems.
