30 Corporate Circle lab building is a stand-alone annex on the main corporate campus. Three phases of the lab are currently constructed with a fourth planned to complete occupancy of this 120,000 sq. ft. building. Currently there are 120 fume hoods installed in 16 separate labs on two floors. The construction has looked to the future through each phase and the boiler plant, chiller plant, electrical distribution, chemical waste systems and fire protection systems have all been master planned to be expanded as each phase requires more system capacity.
A unique component of this lab is the application of a geothermal condensing system for two 500-ton chillers. Production water wells pump up to 1000 gpm of water from the aquifer and this is used as condensing water for the centrifugal chillers. The non-contact heated water is then returned to the aquifer, All air handling units and exhaust systems utilize a pumped glycol heat recovery system to recapture waste heat and cooling from the exhaust air flow. These energy efficiency measures have combined to generate over $250,000 in NYSERDA grant money for the Owner.
