ALBANY MOLECULAR RESEARCH - Syracuse Research Center

Albany Molecular Reasearch

This state of the art research and development lab was constructed to accommodate the fast pace of this division of Albany Molecular Research. The division's specialty is rooted in the ability to quickly develop means and methods of producing organic chemical compounds and also finding alternate ways to produce new compounds. The labs included in this project included organic chemistry labs a as well as "Prep Labs" which act as small scale pilot plants for moving a compound from small sample bench experiment size production to multiple kilo production.

The facility was constructed in an existing single story building originally built as office space. A central boiler/chiller plant addition was constructed to house the major supporting utility systems.

The HVAC systems included over 160,000 CFM of outside air and a completely new central boiler and chiller plant to support these loads. A number of process gas systems were included throughout the laboratory including oxygen, nitrogen and compressed air. A custom designed process cooling loop was designed to accommodate heat rejection from numerous small scale lab chillers used in compound vessel cooling.

The key goal of this facility is the division’s ability to react quickly to clients changing requirements and the mechanical and electrical systems are designed to support this goal.
