Ottenheimer Associates until January 1965 at which time Harold H. Friedman and Joseph L. Ottenheimer formed a partnership to practice under the name of Harold H. Friedman Associates.  James R. Fisher became a partner in the firm in 1973 and the professional corporation of Friedman Fisher Associates, P.C. was formed. The firm has continued under this name since.

This firm of consulting engineers was formed for the purpose of offering engineering services throughout New York State and Western New England.  The group has operated continuously and successfully in this endeavor since it was founded.  The firm’s office is located in Albany, New York.

Friedman Fisher Associates, P.C. offers complete engineering services for mechanical and electrical systems in all types of building construction.  The wide variety of projects successfully completed by the firm provides a solid base of experience with all types of systems and illustrates the versatility and flexibility the firm is able to bring to a project.  Basically, the services offered may be grouped into engineering studies and engineering design services.

Engineering Studies

Studies are performed to evaluate and report on systems and equipment.  The purpose of a study is to evaluate an existing situation or explore the implications of a new proposal.  A study may be used to seek new solutions to a problem or evaluate solutions which have already been proposed.  An engineering study brings a fresh perspective to the problem under consideration.

This often results in discovering new solutions as well as evaluating solutions which are currently under consideration.  The report generated by the study presents a section of alternatives to the decision makers in an organization and provides the types of information needed for decisions to be made.  We offer studies of the following types to evaluate mechanical and electrical systems and equipment.

  • Life cycle cost analysis
  • Energy conservation measures for heating and electrical systems
  • Energy management systems
  • Division of building utilities into separately metered units
  • Code compliance of mechanical, electrical and fire protection systems
  • Heating system evaluation and recommendations
  • Electric distribution system evaluation and recommendations
  • Plumbing systems evaluation and recommendations
  • Fire Protection systems evaluation and recommendations
  • The condition of existing equipment or systems and their adequacy to meet projected future needs
  • Master plans for facility wide electrical, mechanical or electronic systems

If the extent or objectives of a proposed design project are not clearly defined, a study may be performed prior to starting the design.  A study will furnish the information required by the client to clarify his objectives and determine the scope of the project to be designed.

Engineering Design Services

The engineering design services offered encompass the total design process for mechanical and electrical systems.  The design and construction administration of a project may be performed as one continuous process from conception to completion or separated into distinct steps as Schematic Design Phase, Design Development Phase, Construction Document Phase and Contract Administration Phase.  We provide design services for both of these approaches to a project and tailor our services to accommodate the specific requirements of fast track projects, negotiated projects, and competitive bid projects.

The firm offers design services, including plans and specifications for electrical, plumbing, fire protection, heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems to serve commercial and institutional buildings including:

  • Schools
  • Hospitals
  • Transportation Facilities
  • Banks
  • Nursing Homes
  • Industrial Plants
  • Libraries
  • Pilot Plants
  • Health Facilities
  • Laboratories
  • Office Buildings

Design work to rehabilitate, restore, update or add to existing systems is included in the types of services offered.  A large part of the firm’s practice is devoted to work with existing building systems.  Changing code requirements and increasing energy costs make it imperative that mechanical and electrical systems be code compliant and efficient.

The design of specialized systems to provide the proper environment for specific types of equipment or processes is also offered.  The following types of environments are included in the firm’s design experience:

  • Ground Coupled (Geothermal) Heat Pump Systems
  • Computer Room Air Conditioning and Humidity Control
  • Computer Room Clean Power Electrical Systems
  • Clean Rooms for Semi-Conductor Research Laboratories
  • Hazardous Gas Ventilation Systems
  • Hazardous Locations for Chemical Storage and Research Facilities
  • Laboratory Fume Hood Exhaust and Ventilation Systems
  • Dust Collection for Industrial Processes

The firm offers its engineering design services either directly to the client or as a consulting engineer working in conjunction with the client’s architect.
